How To Clean Duette® Cellular Shades
Window treatments don't need to be deep-cleaned as often as floors and countertops. Still, regular TLC keeps them looking their best and lasting longer. We feature the Hunter Douglas brand, and homeowners clean the styles using different methods.
Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades are surprisingly durable and, with the proper care, serve their purposes beautifully for many years to come. Below, we explain what they are and how to care for them.
About Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades
As the first honeycomb shades on the market, Duette® Cellular Shades feature a specially engineered cellular construction. When the fabric is down, it traps air in its pockets, creating insulation that regulates room temperatures. Choose horizontal or vertical orientations; these shades will fit specialty-shaped windows like arches, skylights, and glass doors.
Duette® Cellular Shades offer the industry's best selection of colors, textures, and opacities. Choose from 3/8 ", 3/4", or 1 1-/4" pleat sizes. The fabrics resist fading and maintain their crisp, neat pleats over time; regular maintenance keeps them in fine shape.
How to Clean Cellular Window Shades
Hunter Douglas designed Duette® Cellular Shades as a low-maintenance window treatment; a light dusting every week keeps them looking new. Complete the following steps once a month or sooner if deep cleaning is needed:
- Turn a hair dryer or compressed air onto the non-heat setting; blow off any accumulated dust from the fabric.
- Vacuum carefully with a vacuum cleaner brush attachment. Use a vertical stroke for most cellular shades.
- For spot-cleaning, dampen a clean sponge or soft cloth with lukewarm water. Blot gently; rubbing might damage or crease the fabric. If that doesn't work, add a drop of mild detergent to the sponge and try again.
- Use mild soap and water on plastic parts like handles, and wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth.
- Avoid using magnetic cleaners like dusting mitts on light-dimming fabrics; that can damage the backing.
